Here's a fly for those overcast, damp and drizzly days as well as NOW - late season in the northeast such as October / early November...The Admiral's® Olive Parachute.
Blue Wing Olive's are a season long staple for the trout on the main stem of the Upper Delaware River. They usually hatch in the afternoon time period and almost always on dreary overcast days. BWO's can range from size 14 down to size 20 and I've found that this fly tied in either 16 or 18 in a parachute style is a great imitation for hungry trout on the prowl. The fly sits flush in the water column presenting a vulnerable tidbit for the fish and the white fine Z-lon post available at Blue Ribbon flies in West Yellowstone, Montana functions as a good strike indicator in low light periods.
Fish On! Flies are always available by emailing .
This was the go-to fly today and the trout devoured the imitation in size 18.
Tight lines! TR
